MxMo XXXVI: Hard Drinks for Hard Times

mxmologo

This february Mixology Monday is all about the hard times we all are facing. This event is hosted by Rowley`s Whiskey Forge who says:

“Here’s a chance to share how you’re drinking during the downturn; whether it’s affordable booze, ways you’re cutting corners, or things you’ve figured out how to mix or make on the cheap, we need to hear it.”

Thank you Rowley and thanks for hosting! We are in for the cheap drinks, well, i tend to keep it simple when i want to save a bit. One of the most simple and tasty drinks i know in existance is the Jamaican JWray&Ting with a splash of lime. And here a can of Ting is cheap, JWray which isnt expensive, is almost always on my shelf and ice is always in the freezer, so its cheap, its gooood and tasty!

But to make a new drink i decided to add a splash of cachaca to lively up the drink a bit. And what can be cheaper than adding some nice cachaca which was even given to me? and a lime isnt expensive either, so i added some muddled lime and a spoon of sugar. So here we go:

LIFE SAVER

life-saver-mxmo-feb-2009

1 lime quartered
1 tbsp fine raw sugar
2 oz cachaca
0.5 oz JWray overproof rum
Ting to top (sub with grapefruit or lemon soda)

Muddle lime and sugar in shaker, add Cachaca and JWray. Shake and strain into ice filled tumbler. Top with Ting. Garnish with a lime wedge.

With the addition of cachaca and sugar this drink becomes a hybrid between a caipirinha and a JWray&Ting. That`s it, with this drink in hand you don`t need anything much else.

Tasty, simple, affordable.

  • Tiare ~

I was just nursing a Ting yesterday (lunch was goat curry and jerk chicken), thinking how good it would be with a hit of rum. The cachaca’s a nice touch.

  • T, this sounds fricken awesome, and I’m always looking for uses for Ting :) Which cachaça did you use?

  • Tiare

Rowley..now i REALLY get droolin`..goat curry, jerk chicken and Ting? yum!

    Rick, i used Leblon;-)

  • This looks great, Tiare! Teh Dood kindly bestowed a bottle of JWray on me, so I think it’s about time I used up some of the three million bottles of caçhaca in the bar…

  • Tiare

You have three million bottles of caçhaca in the bar…?? WHERE IS YOUR BAR?????

  • Hahaha! Okay, maybe I meant five bottles, but three million sounded much better. And my bar is, as you might guess, overflowing. I’m about to start storing bottles in the bathroom.

  • T, this is a delightfully refreshing libation. I could easily see sipping one of these in August, under a tree, with a basket of fried chicken.
